will they THIS time survive season one?
This team will upset MORDOR mark my prediction here. My only worry is they are very Prone to injury. But if and when River gets in a groove hands down best player in the league.
What’s not to love about the scrappy, small-town, heart-winning Fireflys? This is a club that could go so far, but may disappoint if they get hamstrung before they can finish. We love to love the S.V. Fireflys and we HATE it when one of them goes out with an injury, which can and has happened on several occasions. But if they stay healthy and win big numbers early on, they have the strength and stamina to win the Pennant and the Championship.
Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds is a player coach who has picked the wrong side almost his entire career. He has a hard head, and a hard time taking the call from a higher up, so his position as manager and captain is absolutely not a surprise. Big damn heroics are his hallmark, but if the fizzle hits the drive too early, he’s very liable to burn out before this club has a chance to score a single digit. He’s so smart tactically but more often than not his big ego and big mouth put him and his team in difficult positions. Still, with so much raw talent and that amazing winning smile, it’s hard not to love this scoundrel.
The Man they called Jayne is a mountain of virile angst. He can’t even sit still in room without looking like he’s about to rupture out of his skin and blast the ever-living out of everything. He will go so far to get the job done, but his history of contract negotiation woes has haunted him since his first game appearance. He is looking to get paid as part of this Serenity Valley Club, but he can at times be seen to have a heart of gold and a very charitable nature. The dichotomy of Jayne is displayed in his deepest love, his one true lady–Vera. Soulmates to the last, she embodies everything that is great in Jayne Cobb.
No one likes to hit like Zoe Alleyne likes to hit. She has stood beside Mal every step of the way and sometimes even further than that. A powerful long-range hitter, but also dangerous in close, you can’t guard her effectively. The main drawback out of Alleyne is her wont to act as protector for everyone in the squad. She uses a lot of time playing nursemaid that could be better spent just blasting out score after score. Still, never count her out of a play unless you want to get burned huge in the aftermath.
A leaf on the wind, but a dynamo on the field: Washburne cannot be beaten in the air. His ground game is respectable, but you will never catch him off-guard over the top. At least that’s what you’ll think, because even if you manage to surprise him, he’ll just improvise some genius maneuver to beat you anyway. Husband and wife teams CAN work, and that’s just what Alleyne and Washburne prove, time after time. Solid defense will ensure a great position for this club, and they get just that in “Wash.”
Not much is known about the man who goes by “Book” before he signed with S.V. And that’s just how he prefers it. A mystery, wrapped in an enigma, and force fed his opponents with ballistic energy, when “Book” gets to action, watch out. He’s turned the tide a variety of ways and often for this club. Good things come in brown paper wrapping–he may look plain, but he’s a deep “Book.”
The bench for this team is loaded with knockouts, who are all knockouts. Full of tricks, with that beguiling smile, never underestimate a fully trained companion. And when River Tam starts to dance, the stars align. Although some off-the-field antics have caused some distracting heat for the young phenom, she is like a machine (see what I did there) once she gets in motion. And you can’t negate the utility of a “Kaylee” Lee. She is the heart of this squad if Mal is the brains. Round out with assistant coaching from a resourceful genius like Big Brother Simon Tam, you have a deadly foe in the Fireflys.
But the ‘Flys have to beat two other great clubs, and one terrible club. The Rebels have an itch in their bonnets to gain that elusive championship. The Velocity are surgeons on the field and are unstoppably logical in their execution, possibly THE team to beat in the East. The Jaynes (colloquially the Mudders) want some W’s this season to avoid Relegation, and a cornered dog is a dangerous animal indeed. It’s a long season, so buckle up and tape the windows, because it’s going to be a hurricane.
The Fly’s are going all the way this year baby!
Let me lay a number on you: seven. That’s the total number of games that the Crows have won so far this season. What’s the total number of games played so far this season? That’s right, seven! IF Serenity Valley makes it to the finals this year (not a given thing just yet) do you honestly believe that Mordor isn’t going to slap a saddle on them and ride them like a pony?
